TechCrunch reports that Harvey, one of the better known legal AI companies, has acquired Hexus. The context is pretty simple: legal tech is getting crowded, and Harvey is choosing the “buy” button to move faster.
If you sit in biotech legal, this matters more than most people want to admit. A lot of our day to day work is repetitive but high risk: contract redlines, clause comparisons, side letter cleanup, diligence summaries, and answering the same regulatory questions in slightly different language. AI doesn’t need to be perfect to change how that work gets done. It just needs to be cheaper and fast enough that teams start using it for first pass work.
The near term consequence is not “lawyers disappear.” It’s that the baseline for responsiveness goes up. Internal clients will expect drafts quicker, and outside counsel will feel pressure on hours for routine tasks. The fun part is figuring out where you still want the expensive human brain involved: novel deal terms, real negotiation leverage, litigation strategy, and anything where the business context is the whole point.
Let’s be honest – who doesn’t already use Copilot rather than asking that legal colleague that doesn’t have time anyways?!
